Week 14 with Triplets
Week of October 4, 2021
The triplets continue to grow so quickly, and this week we had some big firsts.
Moving to Cribs
Up until now the babies have been sleeping in portable bassinets in the master bedroom. Close to their parents for quick and easy tending.
Sadly, babies do get bigger and, because the triplets love spinning themselves sideways during the night, were frequently getting themselves wedged.
With much sadness (from their mom), they finally decided to move the triplets into their cribs. The babies took it just fine and have continued sleeping quite well during the night.
After breaking down the bassinets, their mother did appreciate getting that space back in the bedroom.
Sleeping Arms Out
In addition to their crib migration, the triplets have also started sleeping in swaddles that allow their arms to be free during the night.
They are old enough to enjoy the freedom of having their arms loose. They’re also starting to discover their hands and will frequently occupy their awake time trying to find a thumb.
Sitting upright
Their mother has been working consistently on tummy time with the babies and they’re getting very strong. This week we decided to experiment with having them sit up.
We started with their Bumbo Floor Seats. What’s nice is how securely they support the babies with a high back and deep seat.
They all did well and it gave them a new way of looking at their surroundings. I placed them on their play mats in such a way that the hanging toys were now in front of them. That seemed like a pretty radical experience to them.
WonderFold Wagon Seats
You know how much we love the WonderFold Wagon (see our Strollers for Newborn Triplets post), but up to this point the babies have only laid in the bottom. We knew this would work for long, especially with triplets, because they’d simply get too big to fit that.
Their mother made the decision this week to try out the drop-in seats that came with the WonderFold Wagon. The seats have a high back and padded five-point harness, so the babies are fairly secure and supported.
They could probably use a few more weeks of growth, but the triplets didn’t mind the new seating position and kind of liked being able to look at each other.
Activity Jumpers
The babies are just tall enough now that we wanted to see how they’d do in their activity jumpers. Their feet just barely touched the ground, but they quickly figured out they could push off and move themselves on the springy straps.
With so many new activities on these jumpers, it was a lot of fun toys to experience for the first time.
And then Baby A had a giant diaper blow-out, so we learned how the seat removes to be thrown in the washing machine.
Quick Visit to the Pediatrician
The babies have been quite congested the last few weeks, and Baby C started developing a little cough.
Their mother has been diligent about using a Baby Nasal Aspirator to keep them breathing freely. But the cough raised the level of concern.
So we made an appointment and took them to the pediatrician to get checked out. Baby A and C got a prescription to help with a rattily chest, but they were otherwise fine.
The best part of the visit was getting updated weights on the triplets at about 14 weeks.
- Baby A = 12 lbs. 9 oz.
- Baby B = 12 lbs.
- Baby C = 14 lbs. 6 oz.
Yes, we too were shocked by that 14 pound weight on our big boy.
Love this! I always ask my son how are the triplets?!! I love the updates
